Community Projects

The University of Iceland aims to strengthen its ties with Icelandic society and promote increased interest and understanding of science. Below are some of the most important projects related to this goal, either on behalf of the University or in collaboration with other organisations and businesses.

Information for Spouses

The best way to integrate and become a part of a new society is to get a job and socialize. Below you can find information about the job search process in Iceland, information about companies in Iceland and voluntary work.

Family

Iceland is a prime place to raise children. Women's participation rate at the job market in Iceland is very high. Due to that fact all municipalities subsidize child care in order to make both parents be able to work outside of the home. All public primary schools in Iceland are free of charge. International Staff Services offers newly recruited employees assistance to bring their family to Iceland.

Doctoral Studies

Doctoral studies are expected to take 3-6 years with normal progress and are usually commenced after completing a Master's degree.

The goal of the doctoral programme is to bolster the abilities of candidates in independent scientific research and scholarly activities. In addition, the programme is intended to strengthen Icelandic research in the fields of education, nurture, training, pedagogy, and leisure.

Graduate Students 2017-2019

Orientation meeting August 25, 2017.

Adam Franklin Bierstedt (US)

  • Medieval Studies, BA, University of Chicago, 2017

As an undergraduate, I studied many aspects of Scandinavian history, from archaeological data to texts like Njáls saga, in isolation. Here, I hope to integrate that knowledge into a more coherent interdisciplinary foundation on which I can better study the importance of the sagas.
