Admission Requirements

Undergraduate studies

Students who enrol at the University of Iceland shall have completed a matriculation examination (stúdentspróf), or an equivalent examination.

Admissions examination
There is a special admissions examination for the Medicine and Physical Therapy Sciences programmes at the Faculty of Medicine in the University of Iceland held in June each year. Regulations on the admission of new students to these programmes have been approved by the University Council (háskólaráð). Please note that the exam is in icelandic.

Graduate studies

Admission requirements for MS study in the Faculty of Medicine is a BS degree from the University of Iceland, or an equivalent degree or examination, with a minimum GPA of 6.5 (on a scale from 0-10). It is permitted to disregard the minimum mark rule if a student has, e.g., demonstrated his/her academic aptitude and/or qualifications in independent research.

Application deadline for graduate studies is the 1st of February
Nordic citizens are exempt and may apply for graduate studies until the 
15th of April.

Admission requirements for PhD study at the Faculty of Medicine is a research-based MS degree or a comparable qualification with a minimum GPA of 7.25 (on a scale from 1-10). It is permitted to waive the minimum mark requirement for applicants with confirmed research experience.
