Apply to study at UI

Apply through the UI Communication Portal. Here you choose how you identify yourself when logging into the communication portal.

  • Persons with an Icelandic ID number (kennitala) identify themselves by logging in via island.is.
  • Those who do not have an Icelandic ID number use a login with an email address. When logging in with an email address, it is essential to fill in all the fields correctly and rely on the information in the passport.
  • Persons with Icelandic kennitala but with legal domicile abroad (no Icelandic phone number) need to log in with an email address.

Apply

To apply for a study programme, select the New applications - Programmes tab and choose options from the drop-down menus or use the search box. You can use the top field to search for a specific programme, or use the drop-down menus below to see options by level of study and school.

If a programme is available, there will be a green Apply button. You can also click i More to see details about the programme in the UI course catalogue.

When you click Apply, a new temporary Application tab will open. Read all the information carefully and fill in all applicable fields. It is not possible to submit an application before you have filled in all required fields, marked with an asterisk.

Click Save at the bottom of the page if you don't want to submit your application right away, or Send application.

Once an application has been saved or submitted, go to the Applications - overview tab to see its status. Use this tab to check an application or monitor its status in the application process. If your application is successful, you will also need to use this tab to pay the registration fee.

Please note that applicants from outside the EEA/EFTA region must pay an application fee of ISK 8,000. Payment options will appear after you click Send application.

Supporting documents usually need to be uploaded using the appropriate field on the application form. See also: More information on supporting documents.
