The University considers alumni work an important factor in ensuring stronger connections between current and former students as well as others who want to strengthen and support the University of Iceland. The idea is to make alumni work highly diverse, to instil a sense of unity amongst students, both current and former, to strengthen the University's ties to industry and in doing so gain powerful advocates and benefactors in society. Targeted alumni work is an important part of fostering the University's network as a whole. The same holds true for the University's five schools and its numerous faculties. In addition to building these networks, the University's alumni work also strengthens the school's image, for example, by spreading information about the diverse and important work conducted at our institution. How do I become a University of Iceland alumnus/alumna? For us, all students graduating from the University of Iceland are alumni, even if no formal registration has taken place. This includes students who have graduated from institutions that merged with UI in the past. Other benefactors of the University, who wish to stay connected to the school, are also considered alumni. This includes current and former staff members, businesses, institutions, and organisations. Each individual can then decide for themselves how actively involved they wish to be in the University's alumni work. How can I stay up-to-date on the University's alumni work? News related to our alumni work is published on the University's Facebook page (primarily in Icelandic). This is the best way to stay informed about ongoing alumni work. In addition, the latest news is posted on the University website on a regular basis. UI alumni can often benefit from special offers, such as at the University Bookstore and University of Iceland Continuing Education (Endurmenntun Háskóla Íslands). For this reason, it is a great idea to stay up-to-date and informed. What costs are involved in being a University of Iceland alumnus/alumna? There is no charge for being a UI alumnus/alumna. Its primary goal is to strengthen connections between the University community and former students by providing and disseminating information about the University's work. How can I support the University of Iceland? You can support the University of Iceland in various ways, such as by supporting our work and the development of the school, supporting research, maintaining close relationships with fellow former associates, staying informed about the University's work, milestones and events, and being invited to actively participate. How is alumni work organised? The central University of Iceland website maintains sites about the alumni work of individual faculties. Nonetheless, the focal points of alumni work and project selections are generally in the hands of each faculty. Do UI schools and faculties carry out their own alumni work? The University of Iceland consists of 5 schools, further divided into 25 faculties that offer approximately 400 different study programmes. Some faculties carry out their own alumni work: Faculty of Social Work Faculty of Law The goal of the University of Iceland alumni work is to strengthen and ensure the connection between the university, its former students, and benefactors.
