Doctoral Studies

The doctoral programme is a 180 ECTS, 3-5 year, scientific and technical research project leading to new knowledge and innovation.

The rules and regulations governing PhD or MD (dr.med. doctor medicinae) studies in the School of Health Sciences at the University of Iceland and the submission of a thesis are available separately and are based on the statutes of the University. What follows is a description of the procedures after a doctoral thesis has been approved for public defense and dissertation in each Faculty.

The doctoral research training programme culminates in the submission of a thesis, which the candidate has to defend in public in the University. A three member evaluation committee, including both opponents as well as a member of the committee for doctoral studies perform an official evaluation of the thesis.
