Doctoral Studies

The doctoral programme is a 180 ECTS, 3-5 year, scientific and technical research project leading to new knowledge and innovation.

The rules and regulations governing PhD or MD ( doctor medicinae) studies in the School of Health Sciences at the University of Iceland and the submission of a thesis are available separately and are based on the statutes of the University. What follows is a description of the procedures after a doctoral thesis has been approved for public defense and dissertation in each Faculty.

The doctoral research training programme culminates in the submission of a thesis, which the candidate has to defend in public in the University. A three member evaluation committee, including both opponents as well as a member of the committee for doctoral studies perform an official evaluation of the thesis.
