Aurora is a network of closely collaborating, research-intensive European universities working to shape the future of higher education.

Launched in February 2024, Aurora’s first Call for Incentive and Collaborative Research Projects (Hvatastyrkir fyrir rannsóknasamstarf) received 26 high-quality applications from all institutions within Aurora.

At the end of May, the Aurora community gathered in the historic city of Naples for the Aurora Spring Biannual, hosted by the University Federico II of Naples (UNINA).

On the 28 and 29 May, representatives from the University of Iceland and other Aurora Universities will attend the Aurora Spring Biannual 2024 in Naples, Italy.

The Board of the Aurora Universities Network has announced the appointment of Ms. Anne-May Janssen to succeed Mr. Kees Kouwenaar as Aurora Secretary General.

The Aurora Alliance, of which the University of Iceland is a member, has been awarded a 2 million EUR grant from the Horizon 2020 – Science with and for Society (SwafS) - programme to strengthen and empower research support and innovation within the alliance.

Students at the University of Iceland now have the opportunity to take part in the Aurora Student Champion Scheme organised by the Aurora Student Council.

The European Union has awarded a three-year grant of EUR 5 million to the Aurora Universities Network, the equivalent of around ISK 800 million.

 

The University of Iceland has joined the Aurora Alliance that is currently preparing an application to the European University Initiative under the Erasmus+ programme.

 

The third award ceremony for the Aurora Diversity and Equality Award will be held in Amsterdam at the end of October. The objective of the award is to identify and exchange good practices that are being practised within the Aurora network which the University of Iceland is a part of.
