The Faculty of Medicine is one of six faculties within the School of Health Sciences at the University of Iceland. The Head of Faculty is its director and works under the authority of the Dean of the School of Health Sciences. Administration of the Faculty of Medicine is in the hands of the Head of Faculty and the Faculty meeting. The Head of Faculty is elected by the Faculty meeting and hired by the Dean of the School of Health Sciences for two years at a time. The Head of Faculty sits on the Governing Board of the School. The Head of Faculty is the academic leader of the Faculty and is responsible, in consultation with the Dean of the School, for formulation of faculty policy, organisation of study, quality of teaching and research, relations with collaborating partners and ensuring that the Faculty and its units operate in conformity with the School's budget. Teacher representatives for the Faculty Board should be chosen so that they teach on as many levels of the programme as possible. The Icelandic Medical Student's Association elects two representatives for the Board. No board member should sit longer than six years in a row. Two faculty board meetings should be held each month, escept for in July. Curriculum Council The Curriculum Council is one of the permanent committees of the Faculty of Medicine and takes care of the implementation and supervision of medical education in the Faculty. The Council is an independant entity and combines the forces of employees who have been involved in parts of this project in different places. The Council is expected to coordinate the operation of other committees and councils that work on related projects, e.g. the Postgraduate Council and the Postgraduate Committee. General policy making council meetings are held twice a year. The Curriculum Council is the executive of approved changes in the teaching arrangement of the Faculty.
