Ugla, the University of Iceland intranet, is one of the most important tools for students and teaching staff. You can find Ugla at ugla.hi.is, but it is also possible to log in from the University website; english.hi.is. About Ugla Ugla (the Owl) is the University's intranet and is a collective information site, communication medium and important tool for students and teachers, as well as other members of staff. Various important information is also announced in Ugla. The information and level of access available to each student is based on the student's registration. It is therefore crucial that registration is always correct – students themselves are responsible for ensuring that this is the case. Teaching staff assume that students keep up to date with announcements on Ugla. SmáUglan is a userfriendly University app where you can easily access the features you use most in Ugla. Certain parts of Ugla, e.g. the course catalogue, are open to everyone. How do I access Ugla? Students at the University of Iceland need to have a username and password to access the computer network and ugla.hi.is, the University intranet. The username is also an email address (username@hi.is). When payment of the registration fee has been completed and an Icelandic ID number (kennitala) has been issued, approved applicants can request a username and password at the Service Desk in the University Centre to access to Ugla (UI Intraweb). Students can monitor their study progress and access a variety of information regarding their studies via Ugla. (Note that you cannot get a username and password unless you have been issued an Icelandic ID number and have paid the registration fee.) Email Your University email can be accessed through Ugla. The Service Center contains instructions for setting up your University email in all the major email clients, should students choose to do so. Teaching staff assume that students read their emails regularly and often use email to send important information to the students on their courses. Wireless network You can connect to the wireless network, eduroam, from any location on the University campus. The Service Center contains instructions on how to connect to the wireless network, which is done through Ugla. Please note that each user can only have two devices connected to the wireless network at the same time. Computing services Various information and instructions regarding IT support are available on the Service Center. The information includes: Username and password Wireless network connection to eduroam E-mail and calendar Printing and scanning Open source and free software Ugla - Intraweb The Service Desk in the University Centre sells print credits and you can also buy them online in the Ugla intraweb.
