The School of Education emphasises that service, facilities, and environment create a good atmosphere for study and work. We aim to have our services efficient, professional, positive, and friendly. Students of the School of Education also have access to various support and services provided by the University of Iceland. University buildings The School of Education is located in Reykjavík. The School occupies three adjoining buildings in its main location in Stakkahlíð, Skipholt and Bolholt Reykjavík. Our offices are located in Stakkahlíð. Also in Stakkahlíð is our library, the Teacher Education Bookstore, the Writing Centre, cafeteria, and IT service. Students have access to study and reading facilities in Stakkahlíð as well as in the University Centre. Cafeterias are located in other facilities of the University as well. Morover, the Student Cellar (Stúdentakjallarinn), a bar and restaurant, can be found at the University Centre, and a sports facility in the adjacent building. In our location in Stakkahlíð we have built a friendly community, appreciated both by students and staff. The oldest building in Stakkahlíð is divided into two parts, Enni and Múli. The two newer buildings are called Hamar and Klettur. Arts and crafts classes are taught in Skipholt 37, Reykjavík. Food and drink Háma (UniFood) Háma is locaded at the University Centre, in Stakkahlíð, the University Cinema, and Háma “Corner of the world” in Tæknigarður. Student Cafés are located in Árnagarður, Eirberg, Læknagarður, and Askja. In Háma and the Student Cafés, you can find a great selection of food and beverages. Háma at the University Centre and Stakkahlíð also offer hot lunch every weekday from 11.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. (at a reduced price for University of Iceland student ID holders). The weekly menu can be found on fs.is. The Student Cellar (Stúdentakjallarinn) The Student Cellar (Stúdentakjallarinn) is a restaurant and a café at the University Centre. It is a venue for concerts, meetings, and various student activities. It is not only aimed at students, though naturally they form the majority of customers. Computing Services and IT Support The Computer and Media Centre offers technical services all year, except for 2-3 weeks in July when the Centre is closed. The CMC provides on-site service for the School's computer network, and supervises technical equipment in classrooms and lecture halls, as well as overseeing smaller equipment for temporary loan. The CMC also provides service for learning management systems such as Moodle. Informationon how to connect laptop computers to the wireless network can be found on the Service Center. Need help? Study and reading facilities Good study and reading facilities are available on the Stakkahlíð campus. Designated reading rooms are identified in particular. Classrooms at the Centre for Sport and Health Sciences are used as study facilities after regular classes are finished; a computer lab and three group workrooms with personal computers are open daily. The library in Stakkahlíð also provides study facilities and desks with personal computers. Access to the library and the Computer and Media Centre for disabled students is easy. We also offer software specifically for disabled and special needs students. Library The School of Education library – A collection mainly covering subjects relating to education. This library was previously the library of Iceland University of Education. The Library is a specialised library in the field of pedagogy, education, and training, covering all the subjects taught at the School. It provides access to information and services relating to teaching, study, and research. Need help? Writing Centre The Writing Centre offers one-on-one tutoring sessions on various written assignments in courses at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level. We specially embrace students working on their final theses. Our peer-tutors are all postgraduate students with training as tutors. Our service to students is targeted at helping them write in Icelandic but we welcome students writing in English or other languages. Most writing concerns are not dependent on the language we use, but are problems common to writers of all languages. We are familiar with most of these problems and know ways to solve them. Email: ritvermvs@hi.is Bookstore The Teacher Education Bookstore sells textbooks, especially in the fields of pedagogy, child development, and caregiving. In addition, stationery and miscellaneous items for students are available. The bookstore offers printing and copying services. Where are we? Email: boksalakenno@hi.is Sport facilities The University of Iceland is aware that exercise is important for all students and the gymnasium in the campus area is open to all university students and staff for a modest fee. Further information on the gymnasium, including timetables and opening hours, is available here. Students in Sports and Health Sciences get access to World Class gym. Transportation The University is extremely conveniently located for public transport and many bus routes have stops close to a number of university buildings. The Icelandic word 'strætó' means 'bus'. Further information on bus routes and timetables can be accessed on the website of the bus company. Car parks are available at most buildings at the university area.
