Would you like to do research in health sciences? Are you interested in innovation and an interdisciplinary approach? Would you like to improve your scientific methodology? Look into our MS programme for students with BA/BS degree from health-, physical-, education- or social sciences.

About the study

MS-study in Health Sciences is a two year, interdisciplinary, theoretical and practical research-based programme. The study involves collaboration between all faculties at the School of Health Sciences.

The study includes both courses and MS research project.

Graduates will enter the job market with knowledge, skills and competence in the methodology of health sciences.

For whom?

The interdisciplinary MS-study in health sciences is for those who have completed an undergraduate study in health sciences but want to change faculty for the MS study.

The study is also for students with a BS/BA degree from other fields, such as:

  • biology or other physical sciences
  • anthropology
  • sociology
  • social work
  • education and pedagogy
  • health promotion and sport

Admission requirements

Graduate studies

The student must have completed undergraduate studies, BA/BS/B.Ed. degree, with a minimum grade of 6.5, from the University of Iceland or another university.

In order to enrol in the programme the applicant must have agreed with a member of the school‘s academic staff on supervision of a research project (MS thesis)

After graduation

Students have gained knowledge and skills in using the methodologies of health sciences. They will be able to do independent research and complete all the appendant tasks, such as choosing and using appropriate methods, tools and software, collecting and processing data and writing scientific abstracts and publications. 

Students will also have learned to use critical thinking, an interdisciplinary approach and developed a mindset for innovation.

Students can apply for a PhD study at the School of Health Sciences.
