Erasmus+ Traineeship

Students at the University of Iceland may apply for an Erasmus+ grant to fund traineeships or research work in European universities, companies, or institutes. Traineeship gives students a valuable international work experience that can be useful in their careers.

Students gain practical work experience and can have their internship recognised as part of their studies at the University. They can also do it as part of their thesis or register it in their diploma supplement. The traineeship can also bridge the gap between studies and career as students can go on traineeship after graduation.

It is valuable to have an international work experience when applying for jobs in today’s increasingly competitive job market.

What is Nutrition Science?

Studies in nutrition take into account public health and perspectives on healthy living and deals with, amongst other things, the nutritional needs of individuals that are healthy and unwell during various stages of life, the role and balance of nutrients in the human body, the quality of food based on health and risk, and dietary recommendations.

“The government has to give priority to universities in Iceland,” said Jón Atli Benediktsson, Rector of the University of Iceland, when addressing the candidates at the graduation ceremony in Háskólabíó last Saturday. This was his first graduation as Rector of the University of Iceland, as Jón Atli Benediktsson superseded Kristín Ingólfsdóttir in July last year. The graduates were 411 in total; 211 from undergraduate studies and 200 from graduate studies.

Jón Atli Benediktsson emphasized university funding in his address stating that all funding for the University was put to good use thus benefiting society as a whole. International and domestic appraisals had repeatedly shown the University of Iceland to be an extremely efficient and well operated institution.

He said that it was important that the University move forward and receive funding on par with the Nordic universities, maintaining that recent years‘ accomplishments is not enough.

Amy May Franks (UK)

  • History, BA (Hons), University of Winchester, 2016

While my undergraduate degree was in History, I want to learn to take an interdisciplinary approach with my work to gain a broader understanding of women, gender non-conforming, and queer people in the Viking Age.

Looks forward to working towards increased globalisation

Alma Ágústsdóttir is the new international relations officer of the University of Iceland Student Council, and Emily Helga Rise's successor. This is the third time the post is filled; but the hire is for a year at a time. The International Officer caters to the needs of international students; oversees the Student Council services for them, and facilitates their participation in the University community. The International Officer thus represents international students in all their dealings at the University of Iceland, as well as representing the Student Council in the Aurora Cooperation.

Grants for interdisciplinary research in engineering, health- and physical sciences

05/04/2024 - 10:45

STAFN: The Brynja Einarsdóttir and Örn Almarsson Scholarship Fund is now accepting grant applications. The Fund aims to support the education and broaden the horizons of promising students in the physical sciences, health sciences, engineering, and computer sciences, e.g. artificial intelligence and bioinformatics. Particular priority is given to grant proposals with some connection to health, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical development. The Fund will award grants to students from Iceland currently studying or who have studied at the University of Iceland, at the Master's, doctoral or higher levels, in Iceland or abroad, who take an interdisciplinary approach, e.g. researching biological processes using computer models and AI.
