The University of Iceland Science Park is 94,6% owned by the University and 5,4% by Reykjavik municipality. The association was created to strengthen collaboration with companies, research institutions and other universities on innovation as well as to create facilities for innovators. The prototype is both from Europe and the United States where development of such parks has been rapid. Research shows that collaboration between universities and the private and public sectors give great results if innovation centres are placed in the vicinity of powerful universities.
