The Payroll Office also actively monitors compliance with collective agreements and laws and regulations regarding payroll. Deadlines All signed employee contracts, payment requests, and documents regarding wages should be handed in no later than the 15th day of each month. This is to ensure that all registration of salary is finished in a timely manner, to be paid on the 1st of every month. FAQ Personal tax credit As an employee, you have the right to a discount on tax. The amount is 50,792 ISK per month. To make use of your tax credit, please send us an email with these three things: "Yfirlit til laungreiðanda" is a PDF-file that you can download from skattur.is. You have to log in to get access to the file. Please send the file as an attachment to laun@hi.is, or your contact in the payroll office. Time period: Please state the time period for which you intend to use the tax credit with a beginning and an end date included. Ratio: Please state the ratio of the personal allowance you intend to use. Foreign employees that start work at the University need to notify the Payroll Office about the date they arrived in Iceland as it is often used as a starting date for personal tax credits. If you want to stop using your tax credit at the University of Iceland, please send us an email stating that. NOTE: To claim your tax credit, you have to be in Iceland. See more information here. Payslip The Icelandic payslip has a lot of information on it. Here is a sample in English that can help you fully understand it. Transport agreement The payroll office takes care of all transport agreements with University staff. You can choose between: Using the sport facilities for free. Buying a 12-month bus card for the price of nine months. Additionally, you get 15,000 ISK refunded from the University. To be eligible for the transport agreement you have to meet these conditions: You have to be working at least 50% job at the University. You commit to walking/cycling or taking the bus to work at least 60% of the time. If you meet the above conditions, you can print this out, sign and scan to laun@hi.is and we will take care of the rest. Vinnustund - The time clock Vinnustund is the time clock system that the University uses. All employees, except academics, use Vinnustund. As soon as people are hired to the University, they are granted access to Vinnustund. Here is a link to common problems and solutions regarding the first steps in Vinnustund. If you can't find your answer there, please send us an email. Vacation Employees always earn vacation days with their work in Iceland. Full-time employees are expected to take earned vacation out as a vacation. For temporary and perhaps part-time employees, sometimes the vacation is paid out along with the salary. The contract of employment will state whether the vacation is paid out or not. Food money/food tickets The payroll office takes care of the food money/tickets. To have right to these perks, the employee has to working at least 50% job at the University.
