All services that students need in order to access books and teaching materials are available on the University campus. Students have access to the National and University Library, which is the most advanced library in the country. Library services for students and staff are provided in three locations. Library cards are free of charge. National and University Library The National and University Library of Iceland strives to meet the needs of the University community and achieve excellence in service. The Library provides a wide range of support services for faculty, staff, and students - for example, a variety of study areas, group workrooms, and one-on-one reference assistance every weekday. Our information specialists have created many LibGuides in different fields of study, containing helpful tips and guidance on reference searching and other related topics. Subject-specific library instruction is available to students at any level where our staff aims to support information literacy, introduce library resources, and teach efficient strategies for research. Recently, the library has vastly expanded access to digital content especially e-books in the Humanities and Social sciences, thanks to the department of Humanities that brought in significant funds to finalize large license agreements with major scholarly publishers. The Writing Center of the University of Iceland is located in the library. Students can request appointments through their web-page. Law Library in Lögberg The branch for the Faculty of Law is on the 3rd floor of Lögberg, the law department building, tel: +354 525 4372, lagabokasafn@landsbokasafn.is. The collection holds books, journals, and various reference materials for legal research. Library items can be checked out by students and faculty of the law department but everyone can access the library and use materials on-site. Guðmundur Ingi Guðmundsson is the subject librarian for the collection. School of Education Library The library of the Faculty of Education of the University of Iceland has been merged with the National and University Library of Iceland. A collection mainly covering subjects relating to education. The Library is a specialized library in the field of pedagogy, education, and training, covering all the subjects taught at the School. It provides access to information and services relating to teaching, study, and research. University Hospital Division Landspítali – University Hospital Division of Library and Scientific Information – A collection mainly covering subjects related to the health sciences. This library provides library services for the University of Iceland Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Nursing. The Health Sciences Library is located at Rauðarárstígur 10, 2nd floor, tel: +354 543 1450, email: bokasafn@landspitali.is. Book rooms and smaller libraries Eirberg for the use of students of nursing and medicine; the Landspítali – University Hospital Division of Library and Scientific Information collection mainly covers subjects relating to health sciences. Hagi houses a library for the use of students of pharmaceutics. Lögberg for students of law. The Nordic House for students of Nordic languages Stapi for the use of students of physiotherapy VR-II and the Natural Sciences Building for the use of students in the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences. The library at the Centre for Sport and Health Sciences specializes in those subjects and provides study facilities, group work facilities, and desks with personal computers. Bookstores and book exchange The University Bookstore is a vendor of all textbooks, office supplies, and other teaching materials required by students. The bookstore is located at the University Centre (Háskólatorg), 2nd floor. A separate bookstore operates within the School of Education, servicing the students at the School.
