The University of Iceland's Science Centre (UniSci) received the Icelandic Centre for Research Communication Award at the European Researchers' Night last Saturday. Jón Atli Benediktsson, rector of the University of Iceland, and Guðrún Bachmann, public relations manager for outreach science communication projects at the University, accepted the award.
The Science Centre aims is to increase interest in science and academia through an interactive and hands-on approach. Students can get to know natural sciences through discovery and active participation designed to evoke both interest and understanding. The Science Centre is, furthermore, open to the general public at various events all over Iceland.
The goal of the Science Centre is to:
- To increase general interest in science and knowledge.
- To strengthen teaching in the field of the natural and physical sciences at all school levels; e.g. with courses for teachers.
- To motivate critical and creative thinking.
