Universities in Iceland celebrate Equality Days

""

The masculine rulebook; equality behind the scenes; disability and protest; young people and equality; gendered power; equality in stage art; and women among immigrants in #MeToo accounts in Iceland as well as the unexpected is on the agenda during Equality Days in Icelandic universities this week, 1 - 5 October.

Equality days, now held for the tenth time, combine various aspects of equality and feminism, and focus on diversity, privilege, silencing, the struggle for equality, power, and discrimination.

The programme is diverse, both festive and critical and the events take place in all of the seven Icelandic universities. The organizing within each university is in the hands of the equal opportunities officer, student representative and various experts from the faculty. The Equality Days end in a grand music feast on Friday 5 October at 7.30 P.M. in Kex hostel featuring GóGó Starr, Bríet and other artists.

Equality Days are organised in Icelandic universities in order to create an open discussion, a better understanding of equality and to increase the visibility of this important issue, utilising the strength of the broad range of people operating in the field of equality.

An overview of the diverse events in the universities can be found here on Facebook-page Equality Days.
