UArctric Congress 2021 for a strong, sustainable circumpolar region - Available at University of Iceland

Around 250 talks on issues concerning the Arctic are scheduled during the UArctic Congress 2021, taking place 15-18 May in Reykjavík. The confernce, taking primarily place online, is hosted by all UArctic higher education members in Iceland. There will be a live stream of the opening ceremony on 15 May at 1 PM.

The UArctic Congress aim is to bring together institutional leaders, indigenous representatives, academics, scientists and students from around the Circumpolar North and beyond to engage with each other and promote cooperation in circumpolar science and higher education.

Together with partners, policy makers and other actors, the UArctic Congress strives to take the Arctic agenda forward by creating and strengthening collaborations that produce new findings and solutions for the future of the Arctic.

This year the Congress is part of Iceland’s chairmanship of the Arctic Council and organized in conjunction with the Arctic Council Ministerial Meeting. A special focus will be  on the Icelandic chairmanship's priorities, Arctic marine environment, climate and green energy solutions and people and communities in the Arctic.

The Congress Opening & Welcome ceremony takes place in the University of Iceland's Aula on Saturday 15 May where Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson, Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Development Cooperation, Jón Atli Benediktsson, Rector of the University of Iceland and Outi Snellman, Vice-President of Organization at UArctic address the congress. Then Halla Hrund Logadóttir, Director and Co-founder, Arctic Initiative, Harvard Kennedy School, will give her keynote address; Juggling our Way Together: May the Arctic Force and Fun be with Us. There will be a live stream of the opening ceremony.
 

A total of 245 speakers take part in the congress and there are currently arount 435 registrations.

Students are especially encouraged to participate and their participation is free of charge.
