The University of Iceland opens its doors to the public on Saturday 29 February between 12 and 4 p.m. The open house features numerous events and presentations displaying science in a colourful and vibrant manner.
Visitors can acquaint themselves with the University’s varied curriculum, operation and service, visit the new student dormitory; listen to music; create their own earthquake; see and learn Tai Chi; take a crash course in German, write their names in Japanese, among other things at the University's Open House on Saturday 29 February between 12 and 4 p.m.
The presentation of the study programmes at each School of the University of Iceland will take place in three buildings on campus:
- The School of Social Sciences: University Centre, 2nd floor
- The School of Health Sciences: University Centre, 2nd floor
- The School of Humanities: Main Building, 2nd floor
- The School of Education: University Centre, 2nd floor
- The School of Engineering and Natural Sciences: Askja

Science whisper and other major events
The open house features numerous events and presentations displaying science in a colourful and vibrant manner. Guests can see bizarre creatures in the labs in Askja, have an Icelandic hot dog, fly around the world by flapping their arms, and observe a design competition in civil engineering. The University centre features most of the University’s services and social life. Guests are encouraged to visit the University Bookstore or the Student Cellar. There will, furthermore, be a guided tour to Mýrargarður, the latest student housing at 2 p.m.
There will be a series of short lectures in Oddi, or the new science whisper, where students and staff will talk about all kinds of everything. The talks are in Icelandic.
The Science Centre will be open during the open house in the University Cinema (Háskólabíó), where the whole family can experience science in new and innovative manner, discover new things and play together.
All events at the University of Iceland's open house are free of charge.
The following universities will present their study programmes at the University Centre - 1st floor: University of Akureyri, Hólar University College, and the Agricultural University of Iceland, Bifrost University, Keilir – Atlantic Center of Excellence. Furthermore, the University of Iceland Continuing Education Institute (Endurmenntun) will have representatives there.
Reykjavik University will present their study programmes on their campus. The Iceland Academy of the Arts presents their study programmes at Laugarnesvegur 91.
