New announcement from the Rector 12 March 2020

„Dear students and staff,
 
The University of Iceland Emergency Response Board met this morning (12 March 2020) to discuss matters relating to COVID-19.
•         The Emergency Response Board urges students and staff to access services through digital channels, which are conspicuous all over the University website. Click the 'Web Chat' button to see the options. You can contact the Service Desk (general queries), Student Registration (applications and registration), and the Division of Information Technology (queries regarding technical issues). There is also a new web chat service for queries about contingency plans for teaching and learning due to the COVID-19 epidemic. 
•         In order to offer better support for international students and exchange students abroad, a new web chat service for this group is being developed as a matter of priority. 
•         The Emergency Response Board urges students and staff to take particular care to look out for people who do not have a strong support network in Iceland.
•         We emphasise that hand washing is the best defence against the spread of disease, cf. guidance from the Directorate of Health and the University of Iceland Web of Science. Cleaning has been further increased in University of Iceland buildings.
•         We reiterate that people who are more at risk should work from home, avoid unnecessary gatherings of people and practise good hygiene. 
•         The Emergency Response Board reminds everyone of the pages on the main University website and the University intranet, which contain all the main information on the response to COVID-19 and are updated daily. People are encouraged to read this information carefully and share it as widely as possible within the University community.

•         Attached is a letter from the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management to students in Icelandic, English and Polish. I strongly encourage students to read the letter.
