Message of thanks from the rector to students and staff

Message of thanks from the Rector to students and staff on 18 March 2020:

"Dear students and staff,

The University of Iceland Emergency Response Board met this morning on the third day of the assembly ban (18 March 2020) to discuss matters relating to COVID-19.

The Emergency Response Board would like to thank students and teaching staff for all their efforts to adjust to this unfamiliar situation. We reiterate that at the University of Iceland we will do everything in our power to ensure that students are able to complete the semester and that assessment and examinations take place on schedule.

University of Iceland staff have performed Herculean feats in challenging circumstances in order to ensure that the University's important work can continue. We owe them a debt of gratitude.

In these circumstances it is natural to experience uncertainty and anxiety and people must not neglect their own mental and physical wellbeing.

Let's all take care, comply with the assembly ban and follow the hygiene guidelines. But let's not forget to stay in touch and support one another as best we can.

General information can be found on the University of Iceland's COVID-19 web page, which is updated regularly. We would also remind students to take advantage of the web chat option for all available services.

Staff already in quarantine or who need to go into quarantine in the future are kindly asked to report the situation to their manager. Confirmed coronavirus infections and isolation must also be reported to a manager. Students are also kindly asked to report to their faculty if they are in quarantine. Schools will then pass the information on to the Emergency Response Board at neydarstjorn@hi.is.

Together we will prevail.

Best regards,

Jón Atli Benediktsson, Rector"
