Masks not mandatory when seated in the classroom

Masks not mandatory when seated in the classroom - Available at University of Iceland

The government has issued guidelines on the current public health restrictions from the Minister of Health. The aim of infection control measures in schools and universities is to promote the safety and wellbeing of students, instructors and other staff and to guarantee, as far as possible, that educational institutions continue to function effectively. What the guidelines mean for the University of Iceland:

  • Students and staff should wear masks where it is not possible to maintain a distance of 1 metre.
  • Masks are not mandatory once students are seated in the classroom.
  • The maximum number of staff and students permitted in one space is 200.
  • Mixing of groups is permitted for both students and staff.
  • Events organised by the University or by student organisations must apply the same infection control measures and a maximum capacity of 200 adults.

Otherwise, please refer to the message from Jón Atli Benediktsson, Rector of the University, from 11 August explaining the focus on keeping education as normal as possible. The Rector also urged students and staff to stay responsible and alert and take particular care to prevent infection.

The current public health restrictions from the Minister of Health will remain in force up to and including 27 August.
