The Icelandic-Faroese conference Frændafundur will take place from 16 to 18 August at the University of Iceland, on the second floor of Oddi. This year's programme includes a total of around 60 lectures, which is a record number for this conference.
Frændafundur is a forum for cooperation between the University of Iceland and the University of the Faroe Islands and this year is held for the 11th time. The conference focuses on issues concerning Iceland or the Faroe Islands, with the aim of bringing together Icelandic and Faroese scholars from different fields and creating new opportunities for research collaboration between these two closely related nations.
The conference, which will be conducted in English, Faroese and Icelandic, is multidisciplinary and lectures will cover a wide range of subjects, including grammar, educational sciences, folkloristics, health sciences, tourism studies, sociology, language technology, geology, energy issues, and Arctic affairs.
The conference includes five keynote lectures on sustainability and energy in the Faroe Islands, the COVID-19 pandemic in both countries, the influence of English on Icelandic and Faroese, teacher education in Iceland and the Faroe Islands, and tidal energy in the Faroe Islands.
The conference is free and open to the public and there is no need to register.
The programme and lecture abstracts are available on the conference's Facebook page.
