The Rector has sent the following announcement to University staff and students concerning the COVID 19 epidemic.
"Dear students and colleagues,
We have been informed that some staff and students are now returning to work after travelling in Northern Italy and we have been asked for guidance on how to respond.
The Chief Epidemiologist of Iceland has issued advice regarding travel to areas where there is a high risk of infection: China, four provinces in Italy (Lombardy, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna and Piedmont), South Korea and Iran.
The Chief Epidemiologist advises against unnecessary trips to these areas and recommends that those who have recently been in these areas quarantine themselves for 14 days and contact urgent care services by calling 1700, or their own primary care clinic.
In addition, those who have stayed at the H10 Costa Adeje Palace hotel in Tenerife in Spain since 17 February are asked to quarantine themselves for 14 days after leaving the hotel and to contact 1700 or their own primary care clinic.
Further details on defined areas with risk of infection.
Further information for travellers.
We recommend following the advice of the Chief Epidemiologist of Iceland which is regularly updated.
With kind regards,
Jón Atli Benediktsson, Rector/President"
