Aðalheiður Guðmundsdóttir receives the Dag Strömbäck awards

The Royal Gustav Adolf Academy has awarded Aðalheiður Guðmundsdóttir, Professor in Medieval Icelandic Literature at the Faculty of Icelandic and Comparative Cultural Studies, the Dag Strömbäck award. Aðalheiður received the award for her research in Nordic folkloristics and literature.

The Royal Gustav Adolf Academy in Uppsala, Sweden presented the award at a distinguished ceremony in Uppsala on 6 November.

Aðalheiður Guðmundsdóttir completed her doctorate in Medieval Icelandic Literature in 2002 and began her career at the University of Iceland as Adjunct in Folkloristics at the department of Anthropology and Folkloristics at the Faculty of Social Sciences the same year. She then became an Associate Professor in the same field in 2012. She became an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Icelandic and Comparative Cultural Studies at the School of Humanities on 1 January 2016 and was promoted to Professor at the same faculty last July.

Aðalheiður's research focuses on the narrative role and Medieval literature in a wide context, with emphasis on the Fornaldasögur and the connection between literature and folklore.
