A new book on more economic and sustainable fisheries

A new book by Ásta Dís Óladóttir, associate professor at the University of Iceland, and Ágúst Einarson, former rector of Bifröst University, professor at the University of Iceland and member of parliament, discusses the vast changes that have occurred in fisheries, and what steps can be taken for more sustainable and economically viable fisheries and fish farming. The book was published today by Academic Press, which is a part of the ELSEVIER publishing house, one of the largest and most prestigious of its kind in the world.  

The book is called Fisheries and Aquaculture: The Food Security of the Future, and is based on years of research conducted by Ásta Dís and Ágúst on the environment of fisheries all over the world.  It takes a multidisciplinary and international approach in evaluating the fisheries and aquaculture sectors in light of future food security. The book takes a unique and innovative approach to show how fisheries and aquaculture can achieve sustainability and how small fishery communities can become highly successful fishery and aquaculture communities and contribute to overall industry globalization, as stated on the publisher's website. The authors discuss how companies and countries can improve their success in these fields with an overview of technology options. 

Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, the former President of Iceland and current chairman of the Arctic Circle Assembly writes the foreword. He talks about how the authors benefit from their knowledge of Icelandic fishing industry to present their global analysis and world-based data in a comprehensive manner and the increasing role of these industries in the food security of coming generations.
