Almost two thousand international guests have arrived in Iceland or are on their way to attend the European Academy of Management (EURAM) conference that takes place at the University of Iceland from 19 to 22 June. The conference is organised by the University of Iceland's Faculty of Business Administration (School of Business), and is one of the largest conferences ever held in Iceland.

The European Academy of Management is a learned society of 49 countries founded in 2001. It aims at advancing the academic discipline of business administration; both with regards to research and the creation of knowledge. The University of Iceland's Faculty of Business Administration procured the right to organise the conference in Iceland in 2016 and preparations have been ongoing ever since. The head of the organizing committee for EURAM 2018 is Dr. Eyþór Ívar Jónsson, assistant professor at the Faculty of Business Administration and director of  the Research Centre on Governance.

The theme of the conference is Research in Action – Accelerating knowledge creation in management; and it began with a reception at the University Centre yesterday afternoon. Special emphasis was placed on gender equality matters as 19 June is Iceland's Women's Rights Day. Following the reception the formal opening took place in the University Cinema today at 1.30 p.m. where Katrín Jakobsdóttir, Prime Minister, Sibel Yamak, president of EURAM, and Jón Atli Benediktsson, Rector of the University of Iceland addressed attendees. Following the opening there was a forum discussing fruitful collaboration between universities and, with the participation of distinguished research scholars who are experienced in management of large international companies, such as Nokia and Segafredo. The conference ends on Friday with a forum on sustainability where the guest speaker will be Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, former President of Iceland.

The conference takes place all over campus and he latest research in diverse aspects of business administration will be presented; including management, policy making, innovation, globalisation, and governance. The conference furthermore includes workshops for both scholars and people in industry. Around 2,000 applications were received. This is a 60% increase of application from the last conference held last year at the University of Strathclyde í Glasgow in Scotland.

In addition to the presenters are other conference participants so that the combined number of attendees is estimated to be around seventeen hundred; making in one of the largest conference ever held at the University of Iceland.

A special meeting for doctoral students in business administration was held 17 - 19 June in connection with the conference.
