Article 1.  Objective of doctoral studies and degrees at the University of Iceland School of Education.

The primary purpose of doctoral programmes at the University of Iceland School of Education is to strengthen research and knowledge in those academic fields studied at the School. The objective of doctoral studies is to enhance the competence of doctoral students in conducting independent research and academic work, and prepare them for specialist positions in educational science both within Iceland and abroad.

As an undergraduate, I studied many aspects of Scandinavian history, from archaeological data to texts like Njáls saga, in isolation. Here, I hope to integrate that knowledge into a more coherent interdisciplinary foundation on which I can better study the importance of the sagas.

Erasmus+

Erasmus+ is an education programme of the European Union, aimed at increasing cooperation between universities in Europe, strengthening Europe as a knowledge society, and supporting the formulation of a joint and modern European Higher education system. 

The University of Iceland has been an active participant in the Erasmus collaboration for many years and seeks to promote the participation of the entire University community in the European Union education programmes.  

Doctoral Studies

Doctoral studies are expected to take 3-6 years with normal progress and are usually commenced after completing a Master's degree.
 

The goal of the doctoral programme is to bolster the abilities of candidates in independent scientific research and scholarly activities. In addition, the programme is intended to strengthen Icelandic research in the fields of education, nurture, training, pedagogy, and leisure.
