Learning Modern Icelandic
For getting a head start in Icelandic, several courses are available, including:
- Icelandic Online, a free online course in Modern Icelandic offered by the University of Iceland Language Centre.
- International Summer Course in Modern Icelandic and Icelandic Culture organised by The Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies in co-operation with the Faculty of Icelandic and Comparative Cultural Studies at the University of Iceland. This four-week course is held in July every year. Application deadline is February 15 of each year.
- Summer course in Icelandic Language and Culture at the University Centre of the Westfjords (in the Westfjords peninsula in Northwest Iceland). This intensive three-week course is held in August. The University Centre of the Westfjords also offers both a weekend course and a one-week course in Modern Icelandic, as well as an advanced-level course.
The Arnamagnæan Summer School in Manuscript Studies
International Summer School in Manuscript Studies offered by The Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies and The Arnamagnæan Institute at the University of Copenhagen, alternating between Reykjavík and Copenhagen. This is a ten-day intensive course in early Scandinavian (Old Norse-Icelandic and Old Danish) manuscript studies.
