Application Requirements

Applications for study in the Viking and Medieval Norse program should be directed to the University of Iceland. Applications for study are received through an online portal every year from mid December through January with a deadline on February 1st. A link to the online application form can be found below.

Incomplete applications will not be processed. Late applications are not accepted.

The language of the application and supporting documents is English (though see below regarding transcripts).

Application fee

Citizens of countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA)/The European Free Trade Association (EFTA) (exempting the Faroe Islands and Greenland) are required to pay a fee of ISK 20,000 (approximately EUR 135 or USD 150 depending on the exhange rate) for the handling and processing of their applications. The fee is charged as part of the online application process and is payable by credit card only, VISA or Mastercard. The handling and processing fee is not refundable.

Once the application has been submitted, the applicant may monitor its status via the University of Iceland Communication Portal.

Applicants will be notified of their application results no later than April 1, 2024. Initial notification of admission will be sent by email to the email address given in the application. Please make sure we have your current email address. A formal letter of admission will follow.
