Scholarships for blind and visually impaired students at UI

The board of the Þórsteinn Fund calls for grant applications. The primary purpose of the Þórsteinn Fund is to support blind and visually impaired students at the University of Iceland. The Fund's secondary purpose is to support research that will increase knowledge of the lives and circumstances of blind and visually impaired people, especially humanities and social sciences research.

Deadline for applications is 6 November 2023.

This year, scholarships will be awarded to blind or visually impaired students enrolled at the University of Iceland for the academic year 2023-2024. Grants will also be awarded for research into the social and cultural circumstances of blind and visually impaired people.
The total sum of the grants awarded will be a maximum of ISK 10 million. 

Scholarship applications must include the following details:

1. Applicant's name, ID number, address, telephone and email address.
2. Main points from the applicant's academic record and/or CV.
3. The applicant's study programme at the University of Iceland.
4. References from teachers and/or employers.
5. Student progression plan
6. Scholarship applications shall be a maximum of three pages.

Research grant applications must include the following details:

1. Applicant's name, ID number, address, telephone and email address.
2. Main points from the applicant's CV and publication record (maximum 3 pages).
3. Title of the research project, aims and scientific value.
4. A short description of the project, 2-3 paragraphs, which will be used in official publicity materials if the application is successful. A more detailed description of the research project, maximum one page.
5. Time frame, budget and main collaborating partners in the project.
6. Which part of the project the grant will be used for.
7. Other financial support the project has received.
8. Reference from the supervisor, if the applicant is in a research-based study programme.

All grant applications will be treated as confidential. The Þórsteinn Fund reserves the right to award grants to more than one applicant, to reject all applicants and/or allocate grants in another way.

Grants will be allocated on 4 December 2023. 

The Þórsteinn Fund has created new opportunities for blind and visually impaired students in higher education. This is the 11th round of allocations from the Fund.

The Þórsteinn Fund was established at the University of Iceland on 6 December 2006 by the Icelandic Organisation of the Visually Impaired, in memory of its founder Þórsteinn Bjarnason. The purpose of the Þórsteinn Fund is to continue Þórsteinn's life's work of improving the lives of blind and visually impaired people in Iceland.
