Gunnar Stefánsson becomes the new UArctic Vice President for Research
The University of Iceland and the University of the Arctic have made a new collaboration agreement that Gunnar Stefánsson, professor of engineering at the University of Iceland becomes the new UArctic Vice President for Research for the next five years. The University of Iceland recognises the importance of collaboration between universities in the Arctic.
The Arctic faces diverse challenges that require collaboration in the fields of research and teaching. This means that University of Iceland will hold a leading role in the network of universities in the Arctic and the university also has a member on the board of University of the Arctic.
Lars Kullerud, rector of UArctic, and Jón Atli Benediktsson, rector of the University of Iceland, will sign a new collaboration agreement on Tuesday 30 May between 12 and 13 during an open seminar on the Importance of Research Cooperation in the ARCTIC - Across Borders and Disciplines.
The seminar will be attended by students from the collaborative programme ARCADE, which the Centre for Arctic Studies organises in collaboration with the Sustainability Institute of the University of Iceland, Nuuk University, the University of Tromsø, Arctic Initiative at Harvard Kennedy School, and the Arctic Circle.
