The International Vigdís Prize recognizes individuals, organisations or institutions that have pursued groundbreaking work supporting languages and cultures, for example with projects promoting multilingualism, cultural diversity, translation, and art that explores the importance of language. The Icelandic government, the University of Iceland and the Vigdís International Centre for Multilingualism and Intercultural Understanding founded the award to honor the work of Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, President of Iceland (1980–1996) and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Languages.
The award board is now accepting nominations for the 2023 International Vigdís Prize. Nominations must include reasons for nomination and be submitted by 22 May 2023 via the electronic form.
More information about the award and former awardees can be found at the Vigdís International Centre website.
