Representatives from the Institute for Sustainability Studies at the University of Iceland take part in and organize an event on nature-based solutions in the Nordic context in the Nordic House in the Faeroe Islands today, 1 September, followed by an announcement of the Nordic Council Environment Prize nominations 2022. There will be a live stream online from the event.
The event is part of the series organised by the Institute for Sustainability Studies and the Nordic House called "In line with Nature" (Í liði með náttúrunni) launched this spring. The event series is dedicated to solutions aimed at nature-based solutions and their effect in a wider context. Nature-based solution are among the most effective tools available in the fight against climate change and biodiversity loss. And, what’s more, they do not only support the environment – they can also generate social, economic, and cultural value.
Magnus Rasmussen, Faroese minister for Environment and Trade, will announce the nominees for the Nordic Council Environment Prize during the event today at the Nordic House in the Faroe Islands. The theme of the prize this year is 'Nature based solution – a versatile response to the major environmental challenges facing society'.
The unveiling of the nominees will be followed by a seminar on nature-based solutions. The seminar will bring experts, youth, and decision-makers together in a discussion about the importance of nature-based solutions for biodiversity, the climate and human wellbeing - and how they are being implemented in the Nordic countries. Jóna Ólavsdóttir, Coordinator for the Nordic Council of Ministers programme on nature-based solutions will give the keynote talk, and Hafdís Hanna Ægisdóttir, Director of the Institute for Sustainability Studies at the University of Iceland will take part in the panel.
The event takes place from 2 - 4 PM and is streamed online.
