Birdwatching in Grafarvogur - Hiking trips with Science tips
Grafarvogur church
Migratory birds are the true indicator of spring in Iceland. Sölvi Rúnar Vignisson, doctoral student and teacher at the University of Iceland will guide the tour with other ornithologists on the beach in Grafarvogur. This is a great spot in Reykjavík to see these birds as they gather on the beach in the spring. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars and even books on birds. The tour takes 2-3 hours
Sölvi Rúnar has led this project numerous times along with the ornithologists Gunnar Þór Hallgrímsson and Tómas Grétar Gunnarsson at the University of Iceland who is also Sölvi's supervisor in his doctoral thesis.
This tour was cancelled two years in a row due to COVID-19 but now it is back on so participants can get re-acquainted with these feathered friends of Iceland.
