Participants in Academy for Woman Entrepreneurs (AWE) recently travelled to Akureyri for a workshop. The workshop included diverse training in developing of business ideas, excellent opportunities for networking and comparing notes.
AWE is a worldwide platform for women organized by the University of Iceland in collaboration with the American Embassy in Iceland. AWE aims at supporting women in further developing their business ideas and increasing their presence in innovation and entrepreneurship.
AWE was launched for the second time in Iceland last month with a total of 50 women participating with 37 business ideas. The platform is organised mostly online in order to facilitate access for women across the country.
However, the programme includes a few workshops and 30 entrepreneurs from all over Iceland participated in one that took place in Akureyri recently. The workshop was held at the University of Akureyri where the Mayor of Akureyri, Ásthildur Sturludóttir, welcomed the group. Dr. Sigrún Stefánsdóttir, specialist in mass communication, gave a talk on how the present business ideas and Vilhjálmur B. Bragason, poet entertained the women at the end of the first day.
The second day was spent on how to prepare a pitch and the participants got good ideas and tips from experienced women entrepreneurs; Arna Björg Brjarnadóttir and Rebekka Kristín Garðarsdóttir from the Union of Local Authorities, and Fjóla Björk Karlsdóttir, adjunct and Kristín Margrét Jóhannesdóttir, assistant professor, both at the University of Akureyri. Kristín Ása Einarsdóttir at the University of Iceland also gave a talk on the making of pitch videos.
