On-site classes will be canceled tomorrow at least until noon - Available at University of Iceland

Jón Atli Benediktsson, Rector of the University of Iceland, sent the following message to University staff and students today (6 February 2022):

"Dear students and colleagues.

Due to a very bad weather forecast from the Icelandic Meteorological Office for the capital area, all on-site classes at the University of Iceland will be canceled tomorrow, at least until noon. On-site classes will be moved on-line where possible.

Southeasterly winds or storms are forecast with snowfall and torrential rain. This is a red weather warning that is valid from 4:00 AM until 8:30. Due the the storm the National Commissioner of Police has declared an alert phase from midnight tonight, in collaboration with Police Commissioners in the whole of Iceland.

Strætó bus company has canceled all morning trips in the capital area and the company's website states that Strætó can start driving in the Reykjavík area again at 10:00AM at the earliest.

As heavy precipitation and high winds are forecast, there is a high probability that roads will be blocked in many parts of the capital area in the morning, and getting around will be very difficult. I urge you to pay close attention to the situation in the morning; keep calm and follow announcements from the the Meteorological Office, the Civil Defense and on the Facebook page of the Police in the capital area.

Best wishes to you all – take care.

Jón Atli Bendiktsson, Rector"
