Rapid antigen testing is now available for all University students and staff, or indeed anyone at all, in the University Centre. This testing site is intended to promote stronger infection control on campus.
Testing is offered in collaboration with the company Arctic Therapeutics. Arctic Therapeutics is certified by the Icelandic health authorities to carry out rapid antigen testing and issue certification of test results. The company already operates rapid antigen testing sites in Harpa, on Kleppsmýrarvegur and in Akureyri.
Tests take just 15 seconds, but must be booked in advance using the website covidtest.is or hradprof.is. The results are then sent as an electronic certificate within an hour.
The site is open between 10 am and 1.45 pm on weekdays and tests are free of charge. Some of the testers are University of Iceland students who have been trained for this work.
By opening a rapid antigen testing site in the University Centre, the University of Iceland aims to promote stronger infection control and increase the safety of staff and students on campus during the pandemic, as well as contributing to our society's efforts against the virus.
The University has already taken several steps to fight the spread of infection. One example is the QR code system that can be found in all University classrooms, designed to minimise disruption to University operations by facilitating more efficient contact tracing if a case is identified in connection with teaching at UI.
