The young band Dymbrá at the next University Concert

The University concert series continue on Wednesday 11 November with a concert by the youngsters in Dymbrá in the University Aula at 12.15. There will be a live stream of the concert due to current social restrictions and the Aula will be empty apart from technicians and the musicians.

The series began at the end of October with a successful live stream concert with Mikael Máni with his band. Now, it is Dymbrá's turn, who became popular at a music contest for teenagers in 2018 (Músíktilraunir).

The band members are Nína Solveig Andersen, Eir Ólafsdóttir and Eyrún Úa Þorbjörnsdóttir. Eir plays the cello, Nina the violin and Eyrún the flute, they, however, they mix it with technology and less conventional instruments. The band members are now, two years later, only 18 years old but have already published an album that features dark and dreamy chamber music. The album has a hauntingly beautiful folkish aura to it. The songs are have clear melodic structured, but they are regularly broken up with electrical beats and other experimental elements. The mood is mythical in certain chapters (the album can be found on Spotify and Bandcamp).

There will be a live stream of the concert from the University's Aula but a recording will be made available for those who cannot watch live. The concert is open to all and free of charge.

About the University Concert series

For decades, half a century really, this tradition of University concerts has been alive at the University of Iceland. These are monthly events during autumn and spring semester, and take place in University buildings.

The new organiser and artistic director is dr. Arnar Eggert Thoroddsen who says he is guided by the slogan "University for all - Music for all" in this coming academic year. Arnar says he takes his slogan seriously and will seek collaboration with musicians in diverse genres, such as pop/rock, jazz, classical music or just what is promising at each point in time.

The last concert this autumn semester takes place on 16 December when the well liked band Umbra will hold a Christmas concert in its unique style.
