Elías Örn's photo won the photography competition organised in connection with the International Days. The selection committee was unanimous in its choice out of over a hundred photos. The photos have all been placed in an online gallery and will be on display throughout November.
The University of Iceland's International Office organised the photography competition where students that have been or are currently in exchange studies, could share their photos and experience of their stay.
Elís Arnar was an exchange student at the University of Bergen in spring 2020 and studies geography at the University of Iceland. The first prize is two tickets for FlyOver Iceland and a meal for two at the Student Cellar. We congratulate Elís Arnar whilst thanking all of the students that shared their photos.
The selection committee found the winning photo to express aspects of the exchange study experience very well. In its evaluation the committee found the photo to be beautifully composed and the photography excellent. "Photographing persons can be challenging in terms of aesthetic and structure but this photo executes this very well. It also expresses the social element of people coming together. Exchange students often describe the highlight of their experience to be the friends they make, and the photo genuinely conveys friendship and trust. The picture also has an element of adventure as there are only two people in the vastness of nature and yet at the same time the two figures have each other to rely on."
The selection committee comprised Kristinn Ingvarsson, photographer at the University of Iceland, Nanna Teitsdóttir, project manager at the Internaitonal Office, and Emily Helga Reise, Student Council's International Officer.
