The University of Iceland participates in Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) in collaboration with the American Embassy in Iceland.
Through AWE, women entrepreneurs participate in a facilitated entrepreneurship programme supplemented with localized content, as well as networking and mentorship opportunities.
AWE was developed to support the White House-led Women’s Global Development and Prosperity (W-GDP) Initiative, designed to empower women worldwide to fulfil their economic potential, creating conditions for increased stability, security, and prosperity for all. AWE is typically centred around the online training programme, DreamBuilder, developed through a partnership between Arizona State University’s Thunderbird School of Global Management and workshops organised by the University of Iceland.
The online training programme, DreamBuilder, comprises thirteen lectures that participants can watch at any time and anywhere. The University workshops will be tailored to Icelandic circumstances and will include marketing, setting up businesses in Iceland, networking, funding, intellectual property, social media and other issues to help establishing and develop companies.
Among those who will share their experience in the workshops as mentors are Fida Abu Libdeh, CEO and co-founder of GeoSilica, and Sandra Mjöll Jónsdóttir Buch, Product Marketing Manager at Florealis, but they are both experienced within in the field of innovation and company development.
Women of all ages can apply to participate and 20 -25 participants will be selected from the applications.
A digital introductory presentation of the project will take place on 12 November at 12 noon and participants can register for it on the project website.
The application deadline is 29 November and you can submit your application here.
Facebook-event for the introductory presentation.
A diverse group is involved in the organisation of the AWE workshops, including the Association of Business Women in Iceland, Young Professional women and Women of multicultural ethnicity network in Iceland. Furthermore, The University of Iceland Career Connection offers their support to participants throughout the duration of the AWE programme.
Let's harness the innovative powers of women!
