The graduation ceremony will take place in Laugardalshöll on 27 June

Jón Atli Benediktsson, Rector of the University of Iceland, sent the following announcement to students and staff today:

"Dear students and colleagues,

The decision has been made to hold the University of Iceland spring graduation ceremony in two stages in Laugardalshöll on 27 June. We are delighted that the government's decision to relax restrictions on mass gatherings has made this possible. Further details about the event will be forthcoming shortly.

It is also extremely gratifying to see the huge amount of interest in the University of Iceland summer courses. Around a thousand people have already registered for the diverse range of courses which the University is offering thanks to the support of the government. I urge you all to have a look at the available options and register for anything that piques your interest and will help you advance in your work and studies. Some of the courses are such that they also provide valuable life skills.

I would like to notify you that this week, almost three hundred job advertisements were posted for summer jobs at the University of Iceland. The creation of these positions is part of the economic measures the government has taken in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Directorate of Labour is managing the initiative which is being implemented in collaboration with state institutions and municipalities. I urge you, dear students, to take a look at the diverse range of summer jobs available at the University of Iceland. The deadline for job applications is 5 June.
