Title: Auðna Tæknitorg / TTO Iceland - Coordinating technology transfer in Iceland and beyond

Abstract: Science in Iceland scores high with regard to impact of scientific publications and collaboration across borders.  However, this has not translated successfully into innovation and commercialization of scientific results, as pointed out in various external analyses of the scientific and innovation environment in Iceland.  The scientific community and its institutions have responded by opening up a discussion among themselves, inviting foreign experts in the field to share their experiences and ultimately after two years of preparation, by establishing Auðna Tæknitorg aka TTO Iceland.

The role of Auðna Tæknitorg is to provide support to scientists and institutions to increase the impact of their research.  We analyze and secure intellectual property (IP) rights, whenever possible, identify existing intellectual property and potential collaborators or competitors and the market potential of the invention/ research. Auðna Tæknitorg assists in creating startup companies around valuable inventions and promotes the inventions towards industry and investors. We also help the industry to find required expertise within the scientific community.

Facilitating the interactions between academia, industry and investors requires a powerful network that we hope will result in more science-based innovation in Iceland.
