The University of Iceland does not offer any scholarships or teaching assistantships, but keep in mind that there are no tuition fees in Viking and Medieval Norse Studies. Most graduate students in Viking and Medieval Norse Studies support themselves on scholarships or student loans from their home countries, or use their own personal savings.
In recent years, some of our graduate students have received funding from the following sources:
- Fulbright Grants for US Students. The Fulbright Foundation offers grants for US graduate students, recent graduates and developing professionals/artists, to come to Iceland for study, research and other projects.
- The Leifur Eiríksson Foundation Scholarship Program for US Students. The Leifur Eiríksson Foundation funds scholars who are US citizens or permanent residents from US universities for graduate research or study at universities in Iceland.
- The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) Fellowships for US Students. The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) offers fellowships and grants to individuals to pursue research, study or creative arts projects in one or more Scandinavian country for up to one year.
- Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Study (SASS). The Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Study (SASS) website includes information on fellowships and grants.
