Reykjavík has a vibrant cultural and social life with a wealth of events and activities for you and your family to enjoy.

If you want to broaden your intellectual horizons, you can attend public lectures, exhibitions and events run by the University. Including public engagement with research events, which cover a huge range of topics and academic disciplines and are aimed at non-specialist audiences. Various talks open to the general public are listed on the University of Iceland website and Ugla.

Sport in Reykjavik

Reykjavik has a long tradition for involvement in leisure activities, to engage in a club or association is a good start to get to know Icelanders. In Reykjavík are various operating associations and clubs, and most of them are open for English speaking participants.

Outdoor and Hiking

Iceland Touring Association (Ferðafélag Íslands) has been organizing and promoting traveling wishing Iceland since 1927. The association brings together hiking and nature enthusiasts and offers them great hiking adventures in Iceland guided by local experts.

Runners Clubs

The University Runners Club - For 9000 ISK per year the university staff can run with a trainer all Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:05-13:00 from Septemeber through May. Occasionally the club practices all June as well.

KR Skokk is a runners club with a trainer located in the west end of Reykjavik. The group meets every week on Tuesdays and Thursdays at.17:30 at the KR premises and Saturdays at 09:30 at Vesturbæjarlaug, the swimming pool.

Ármann Runners Club located in Laugardalur offers training hours Tuesdays and Thursdays at 17:15 by Laugardalshöll and Saturdays at 09:00 by Laugardalslaugina, the swimming pool.
