Undergraduate studies Students who enrol at the University of Iceland shall have completed a matriculation examination (stúdentspróf), or an equivalent examination. Admissions examination There is a special admissions examination for the Medicine and Physical Therapy Sciences programmes at the Faculty of Medicine in the University of Iceland held in June each year. Regulations on the admission of new students to these programmes have been approved by the University Council (háskólaráð). Please note that the exam is in icelandic. Graduate studies Admission requirements for MS study in the Faculty of Medicine is a BS degree from the University of Iceland, or an equivalent degree or examination, with a minimum GPA of 6.5 (on a scale from 0-10). It is permitted to disregard the minimum mark rule if a student has, e.g., demonstrated his/her academic aptitude and/or qualifications in independent research. Application deadline for graduate studies is the 1st of February. Nordic citizens are exempt and may apply for graduate studies until the 15th of April. Admission requirements for PhD study at the Faculty of Medicine is a research-based MS degree or a comparable qualification with a minimum GPA of 7.25 (on a scale from 1-10). It is permitted to waive the minimum mark requirement for applicants with confirmed research experience. Health Sciences, MSc When a graduate programme with emphasis on research training is applied for, a contract with an instructor needs to have been made. At the beginning of the study period the student submits a research plan in collaboration with their instructor that the research-based study committee (rannsóknanámsnefnd) needs to approve before research can commence. The following documents need to accompany the electronic application: Diploma/grades (not necessary for applicants that have a degree from the University of Iceland). Those who have a BS degree from another university need to submit a certified copy of their diploma (stamped and on paper). Curriculum Vitae (.pdf). Two references (in a box in the electronic application). A short statement of purpose and educational objectives where the clinical field in which the student plans on specialising is specified. This is required whether or not the emphasis is on clinical work, nursing management, og research training. MS research proposal, a contract between student and supervisor and if applicable collaboration agreement between student and company need to be submitted to the administrator for postgraduate studies via email and in hard-copy, signed documents within six months from enrolment. Specific undergraduate programmes are not required, but students are expected to have a solid background in methodology. Student evaluation takes into account some factors from their undergraduate study and students are also required to submit a short report on their professional interest and research goals. International applicants for whom English is not their first language must submit a TOEFL or IELTS score as proof of English proficiency. Minimum scores accepted are 79 on the TOEFL internet-based test or an IELTS score of 6,5. Two references (in a box in the electronic application). It is possible to request a certain instructor in the application but it is not necessary for a graduate study with a 30 ECTS credit final project.
