Enlightenment, discourse and art at Equality Days 2015

""

Refugee issues, the idea behind the #freethenipple campaign, islamophobia, brainwaste, sustainability as equality, and numerous educational and artistic events are part of the programme of Equality Days 2015. Equality days feature almost 30 events from 5 to 16 October in both the University of Iceland, and the Iceland Academy of the Arts.

Equality Days take place for the seventh time at the University of Iceland this autumn semester. The aim of Equality days is to raise awareness on issues of equality in a broad sense. This year the University collaborates with the Iceland Academy of the Arts, offering various events in both universities focusing on a range of issues, involving both staff and students and distinguished guests.

The opening act of Equality Days, Darkness, takes place on Monday 5 October at 7.45 pm at the Iceland Academy of the Arts (Laugarnesvegur 91). Seeing and blind artists will lead guests and explore the darkness with music, beats, thoughts and stand-up comedy. The realm of the visual is side-lined and other senses are activated during this unique event. Artists and speakers include Bergvin Oddson, Íva Marín Adrichem, Kristín Ómarsdóttir, and Ólöf Arnalds.

The events that follow include diverse groups of people tackling equality issues from different points of view. The programme includes a crash course in trans- and intersex issues, a seminar on islamophobia and gender equality, feminism and climate change, sustainability and equality for future generations; to name but a few.

The Final Party takes place in Loft Hostel on Friday 16 October with music, stand-up, panel discussions with a twist, and all kinds of fun. Entrance is free for all events and open to all.

Some of the events are in English, or both Icelandic and English.  Only a fraction of the programme has been touched up on here, find everything here on the UI website  and on Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/Jafnrettisdagar
