Doctoral Studies

Doctoral studies are expected to take 3-6 years with normal progress and are usually commenced after completing a Master's degree.
 

The goal of the doctoral programme is to bolster the abilities of candidates in independent scientific research and scholarly activities. In addition, the programme is intended to strengthen Icelandic research in the fields of education, nurture, training, pedagogy, and leisure.

 The topic of this international multidisciplinary conference April 1-3 deals with extreme conditions and situations in the North, the extreme South, the Arctic and the Antarctic. Scholars from different fields and countries present their findings on this broad and far reaching subject matter. The conference will conclude with a North, Extreme South, Arctic and Antarctic Film Day on April 3rd.

Course work

In the Medieval Icelandic Studies programme, the first two semesters (autumn and spring semesters) are devoted to course work. The principal aim of the first two semesters is to lay the groundwork for further academic work in the field of Medieval Icelandic studies. The third and final semester is reserved for writing a master's thesis. The core of the coursework consists of three components:

The primary purpose of doctoral programmes at the University of Iceland School of Education is to strengthen research and knowledge in those academic fields studied at the School.
