Reproductive rights have been facing what appears as a global onslaught lately. Moves to limit access to abortion have been made in countries as diverse as the United States, Norway, and Malta, to name a few. The LARABII research team is organising a symposium in collaboration with the University of Iceland's Faculty of Political Science on Wednesday 18 May in Oddi 101 between 2.30 and 5 PM. The conference, "The politics of abortion in Iceland, Ireland & Northern Ireland", takes place in English.

The LARABII research team includes affiliated academics from Iceland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, and North America. It is focused on the politics of abortion, including those political forces that wish to limit reproductive rights in the United States and elsewhere.

The keynote speakers include:

- Þórhildur Sunna Ævarsdóttir (Iceland): Member of the Althing for the Pirate Party
- Professor David Farrell (Ireland): Professor of Politics at University College Dublin
- Dr Fiona Bloomer (Northern Ireland): Senior Lecturer in Social Policy at Ulster University
- Ivana Bacik (Ireland): Leader of the Labour Party and pro-choice campaigner

The keynote addresses will be followed by a panel discussion. Silja Bára Ómarsdóttir, Professor of International Affairs at the University of Iceland, chairs the symposium and panel.

Members of the public are very welcome to attend this part of the conference, but are kindly asked to register in advance at larabii.hi.is
