Ahead of the 4th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Council of Europe, taking place in Iceland in mid-May, the Political Science Association of Iceland, the Human Rights Institute, and the Institute of Public Administration and Politics are organizing a lunch-hour meeting on the purpose and types of human rights treaties and what role they play in international politics in the 21st century. The meeting will be held on 9 May, at room N-131 in Askja at the University of Iceland between 12:00 and 13:00 o‘clock.

Keynote speaker: Audrey Comstock, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Arizona State University and Fellow at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy at Harvard University.

Commentary: Kári Hólmar Ragnarsson, Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Iceland.

Moderator: Svanhildur Þorvaldsdóttir, Assistant Professor of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Iceland.

They will address questions such as what purpose do human rights treaties serve, why do states join them and can they help us deal with today‘s crises?

The event will be in English, free of charge and open to everyone.
