Open seminar hosted by Höfði Reykjavik Peace Centre and the Icelandic Red Cross

Challenges in addressing sexual violence - in conflict and beyond

This year marks a decade since the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 1820, which determined that the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict constitutes both a war crime and a threat to international peace and security.  At this open seminar Yves Daccord, Director General of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will speak about sexual violence during armed conflict and other situations of violence, and measures taken by the Red Cross movement to prevent it and help victims

Moderator: Silja Bára Ómarsdóttir, Assistant Professor in Political Science at the University of Iceland and a board member for the Institute of International Affairs and the Icelandic Red Cross

The seminar will take place in English and is open to all.
